It was really hard to open the September 2009 issue of Latina magazine - I was too entranced by the sultry expression on Shakira's face for the cover shot! Eventually though, I managed to delve into the content. Here are my thoughts:
Page 31 features a wonderful collage dedicated to Sonia Sotomayor and be sure to check out the full page feature on the rear cover for the wise Latina commemorative T-shirt.
Page 36 (culture section) contains a solid question and answer session with Maxwell!
Three different celebrity look-alikes appear on page 38. I think the Mariah Carey one is very good. 2nd is the Ricky Martin one....3rd...I would never confuse with Salma Hayek, coincidentally, Latina had them featured in the same order, left to right on the page.
A multi-page article well worth clipping and archiving is 25 Books Every Latina Should Read. This article contains literary suggestions that every person could benefit by reading. Some are fun, many are serious...all are worthy.
When you get to page 57, take a look at the model. She is absolutely gorgeous! She reminds me of Gisele, except this young woman is far superior looking. Stellar bone structure.
Fashion director Angelique Serrano offers fun commentary on her page 66 features. Her write up on matte nail polish is fun and she is completely lovely in her photograph.
The tips on page 74 for wearing printed tights are a must read for anyone contemplating carrying the look this fall.
Pages 90, 92, and 94 carry plenty of information for anyone who is considering going back to school. An informative sidebar on page 92 provides information on various education policies.
An excerpt from a book written by a former female member of a gang seemingly attempts to draw sympathy but is somewhat disgusting from the standpoint of accepting personal responsibility. (See page 100, the book is This Is for the Mara Slavatrucha by Samuel Logan)
Page 103 begins the Shakira spread. Several beautiful photographs and two full pages of text grace the magazine. The article is well written, and the interviewer stopped just short of fawning (I know that must be hard to do!). Shakira wears several different looks and expressions in the shoot. Her hair and makeup are exquisitely done, so the article is a stellar visual feast.
Speaking of exquisite, the "Detail Oriented" fashion spread is incredible as well. The make-up and photography in the section are immaculate and the models are stunning.
You will not be disappointed with the September issue of Latina Magazine.
