Integrated Solutions for Retailers June/July 2009 Magazine Review

I run a business of my own, and I receive the Integrated Solutions for Retailers magazine free from an on-line service.

The cover store of this magazine focuses on aspects of Zappos.com and their business model, particularly as it relates to the month-end closing process. It discusses in some detail their struggles in comparing invoice to inventory to PO receipts. This immediately reminded me of the relatively small headache of checking inventory at the service station where I had my first job. Of course Zappos.com had a headache that was proportionally larger, but they have improved their process. The article details how.

Another article of note is The State of the Store Manager 2009. With a higher work demand, less labor, and less technology to ease the pain, what is a manager to do? An answer to this question will help you dance the fine line between customer satisfaction and dissatisfaction.

My favorite article, considering my e-business home, is the Build Your E-Commerce Brand on a Shared Platform. This article focuses on 1-800-Flowers.com efforts to bring all of their brands together into one platform and their successes thus far. This article by Erin Harris was very thorough without being overwhelmingly technical.

The magazine this month is exceedingly well put together and contains numerous educational case studies. Recommended.
